By Johnny Ackley

During the 70s, 80s, and 90s a form of “scary movies” dominated the thriller market that has been coined “psycho killers.”  The primary characteristic of the psycho killer is for the antagonist of the movie to be some form of a killer.  Whether it is a serial murderer, a sadistic murderer, or someone who is psychotic and ready to kill.

These movies play off fears of gore and blood, captivity, death, and of course serial killers.  During this time there was a rise of serial killers in reality with the coming of the BTK Killer, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, and Son of Sam.
